Pull-Apart Garlic Bread

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 loaf (1 pound) frozen white bread dough, thawed

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the butter, parsley, garlic powder and garlic salt. Cut dough into 1-in. pieces; dip into butter mixture. Layer in a greased 9×5-in. loaf pan. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  2. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

Quaker Vanishing Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cups plus 6 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 3/4 cups firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
  • 3 cups Quaker Oats (quick or old fashioned, uncooked)
  • 1 cup raisins

Crusty Homemade Bread

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1-3/4 cups water (70° to 75°)
  • 3-1/2 cups plus 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour, divided
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon cornmeal or additional flour

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in water. In a large bowl, mix 3-1/2 cups flour and salt. Using a rubber spatula, stir in yeast mixture to form a soft, sticky dough. Do not knead. Cover and let rise at room temperature 1 hour.
  2. Punch down dough. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; pat into a 9-in. square. Fold square into thirds, forming a 9×3-in. rectangle. Fold rectangle into thirds, forming a 3-in. square. Turn dough over; place in a greased bowl. Cover and let rise at room temperature until almost doubled, about 1 hour.
  3. Punch down dough and repeat folding process. Return dough to bowl; refrigerate, covered, overnight.
  4. Dust bottom of a disposable foil roasting pan with cornmeal. Turn dough onto a floured surface. Knead gently 6-8 times; shape into a 6-in. round loaf. Place in prepared pan; dust top with remaining 1 tablespoon flour. Cover pan and let rise at room temperature until dough expands to a 7-1/2-in. loaf, about 1-1/4 hours.
  5. Preheat oven to 500°. Using a sharp knife, make a slash (1/4 in. deep) across top of loaf. Cover pan tightly with foil. Bake on lowest oven rack 25 minutes.
  6. Reduce oven setting to 450°. Remove foil; bake bread until deep golden brown, 25-30 minutes. Remove loaf to a wire rack to cool.

Marshmallow Flower Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 tube refrigerated cookie dough
  • Assorted sanding sugar
  • 1 bag marshmallows
  • 1 can vanilla frosting
  • Green food coloring
  • Pastel M&M’s

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350° and line two large baking sheets with parchment paper. Slice cookie dough into 1/4” rounds. Spread cookies about 1” apart on baking sheet and bake according to package instructions. Let cool completely.
  2. Pour each color sanding sugar into a separate shallow bowl. Using scissors, cut marshmallows in half diagonally and divide halved marshmallows between bags. Dip the cut marshmallow ends in sugar.
  3. Dye the frosting green with a couple drops of food coloring. Place a small amount of frosting on the center of each cookie and place an M&M in the center. Arrange marshmallows around the M&M to look like flower petals.

Simple Crusty Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ tablespoons yeast
  • 1 ½ tablespoons kosher salt
  • 6 ½ cups unbleached, all-purpose flour, more for dusting dough
  • Cornmeal

Directions

  1. In a large bowl or plastic container, mix yeast and salt into 3 cups lukewarm water (about 100 degrees). Stir in flour, mixing until there are no dry patches. Dough will be quite loose. Cover, but not with an airtight lid. Let dough rise at room temperature 2 hours (or up to 5 hours).
  2. Bake at this point or refrigerate, covered, for as long as two weeks. When ready to bake, sprinkle a little flour on dough and cut off a grapefruit-size piece with serrated knife. Turn dough in hands to lightly stretch surface, creating a rounded top and a lumpy bottom. Put dough on pizza peel sprinkled with cornmeal; let rest 40 minutes. Repeat with remaining dough or refrigerate it.
  3. Place broiler pan on bottom of oven. Place baking stone on middle rack and turn oven to 450 degrees; heat stone at that temperature for 20 minutes.
  4. Dust dough with flour, slash top with serrated or very sharp knife three times. Slide onto stone. Pour one cup hot water into broiler pan and shut oven quickly to trap steam. Bake until well browned, about 30 minutes. Cool completely.

White Cob

Ingredients

  • 500g strong white bread flour, plus extra for dusting
  • 10g salt
  • 10g instant yeast
  • 30g unsalted butter, softened
  • 320ml cool water
  • Olive oil for kneading

Directions

  1. . Tip the flour into a large mixing bowl and then add the salt and yeast, making sure they are placed on opposite sides of the bowl. Add the butter and ? of the water, turning the mixture around using your fingers. Slowly add more water until all the flour has been incorporated. When the dough is soft and not soggy it is ready. Move the mixture around the bowl to clean the sides until the mixture forms a rough dough.
  2.  Cover your work surface with a little oil and then begin to knead the dough. Knead for 5 – 10 minutes, working through the wet stage until the dough starts to form a soft, smooth skin and feels silky. Put the dough into a large, lightly oiled bowl and cover with a tea towel. When it has risen to at least double in size and the dough is bouncy and shiny it is ready. This should take at least 1 hour, but can be left for 2 or even 3 hours.
  3. Line a baking tray with baking parchment or silicone paper. 

     

  4.  Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and shape into a ball by knocking it inwards several times until all the air is knocked out and the dough is smooth. Then flatten the dough into a rough rectangle and then roll it into an oblong. Turn the dough so that the longer edge is running away from you and flatten it slightly. Now roll the two ends in towards the centre, so you end up with a chunky squarish shape. Turn the dough over so that the join is underneath. 
  5.  Next, using both hands you need to shape the dough into a smooth domed cob. With your palms turned upwards, position your hands on each side and slightly under the dough. Using your hands tuck the dough neatly underneath itself. Continue, softly forcing the sides of the dough down and underneath, creating a smooth, taut top and a rough underside. Try not to add too much extra flour during shaping. 
  6. The dough is now ready for proving. Place it on your baking tray and place this in a clean plastic bag. Leave to prove for about 1 hour, until it has at least doubled in size and the dough springs back if you prod it gently with your finger. Whilst the dough is proving turn your oven to 230°C and put a roasting tray in the bottom to heat up. 
  7.  Once ready dust your dough with some flour and then slash deeply with a knife. Add hot water to the hot roasting tray, this will create steam in your oven giving your bread a lighter crust. Put your bread into the oven and bake for 30 minutes or until it is cooked and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom. Leave your cob to cool on a wire rack.

  • 1/2 cup sourdough starter, ripe (fed) or discard
  • 3 cups King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour or
  • Organic All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 tablespooon sugar
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 5 tablespoons soft butter
  • 2/3 cup lukewarm water
TOPPING
