Polenta and Pear Upside-Down Cake

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe Bartlett or d’Anjou pears
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 14 tbsp. butter
  • 1/2 c. light-brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. dark-brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. finely ground polenta
  • 1 3/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/4 c. milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 c. granulated sugar
